ABOUT

geekgirl aka rosiex

I’m Rosie Cross, the original geekgirl—an innovator and storyteller who has explored the intersections of art, science, and technology since 1993. I coined the term geekgirl to launch the world’s first cyberfeminist zine, a pioneering platform that amplified voices in the emerging digital landscape.

After an accident in 2023 slowed me down, my focus shifted—from screens to lived experiences, from documenting to creating. With 31 years of content archived, I’ve opened a new chapter: less screen time and more real-world engagement.

Currently studying Visual Arts at TAFE QLD, my practice embraces curiosity, experimentation, and a renewed appreciation for the visual arts. I encounter a lot of inspiring work and hope to share those experiences with you in the future!

As for the past—every now and then, I may hoist an old work of art. Armour was supported by the Australia Council for the Arts around the time everyone was freaking out about the Millennium bug. This version was kindly edited by Ian Andrews (Dec 2025) to run without the need for Flash or Shockwave files. It’s fun and shows that geekgirl doesn’t always take things seriously.
